Created at Université Laval in June 2005, the Institute for Information Technologies and Societies (IITS) accelerates the production of new knowledge and the emergence of development projects in this cutting edge sector.

Mission

 
The IITS stimulates, values and supports the production and the transfer of knowledge related to the use of information technologies amongst the members of the university community and its external partners.
 
Through its university mission, the IITS participates in the advancement and transfer of knowledge, in the development of new continuing education programs and in the carrying out of applied research projects.
 
Thanks to the organization of broad scale events in Quebec, the IITS contributes to the promotion and to the spread of IT knowledge.
 
Furthermore the IITS aims to invest in the future workforce, to attract the best students to graduate studies and to offer to all of its partners a new visibility tool designed to broaden their international scope. The Institute favours interdisciplinary collaboration and weaves bonds between the university community and its external partners. Its activities create business opportunities and favour IT advancement, both on and off campus.
 

The IITS's activities meet the following broad priorities :

  • Development and broadcasting of knowledge;
  • Convergence and accessibility (encourage interactions between Université Laval professors, the IT industry, and the community);
  • Synergy (encourage the pooling of internal and external teaching and research expertise);
  • Business opportunities;
  • Advisory and lookout;
  • Succession (hold activities that favour the succession of the teaching staff and that contribute to attracting graduate students to Université Laval).

Fields of contribution

 
The IITS groups over one hundred researchers and favours the following fields:
 
  • Education and Knowledge Transfer;
  • Technologies and Innovation;
  • Culture and Society.

In the contexte of it's 2017-2018 Action Plan, the IITS looks to focus particularly on six broad thematics

  • Big Data and the Internet of Things;
  • Healthcare and Innovation;
  • Robotics and Artificial Intelligence;
  • Smart Cities and Communities;
  • Smart Green Architecture;
  • Humans in the Digital Age.
